  • On February 2nd, What is Zen?: Plain Talk for a Beginner's Mind, by Norman Fischer and Susan Moon, will be published by Shambhala Press. A conversation between two longtime dharma friends, the book is a wonderful response to this mysterious and ultimately unanswerable question. On February 12, at 7pm, Norman and Sue will be doing a live conversation at Book Passage in Corte Madera. Please come!
  • We're excited to announce the launch of Norman Fischer Books, a new website dedicated to Norman's published poetry and prose. The site contains a beautifully curated selection of essays and poems, reviews and recordings, as well as an events calendar with listings of Norman's book-related readings and workshops. We hope you enjoy it!
  • And another piece of exciting news: Norman’s long-awaited collection of essays, Experience: Thinking, Writing, Language & Religion, is now available from University of Alabama Press. These essays, which trace the history of Norman's thoughts on experimental writing as a spiritual practice, represent the distilled insights of a lifetime spent immersed in words and Zen. The publisher is offering a nice discount until the end of January, 2016, if you use the discount code MCP16 at checkout.

  • Norman will be taking part in James Baraz's Awakening Joy 2.0 course starting in February. Thousands have taken James's Awakening Joy courses since 2003, and this year Norman is happy to be one of the outstanding line-up of presenters for a new curriculum, which will focus on loving-kindness and compassion. Participants can do the 5-month course either online or by attending the live classes in Berkeley. For more information on the course, or to sign up, please go to the website
